I was in Portland for the election. I watched the results huddled around a small tv with mostly strangers. Some people were crying, some were so happy they were shaking, and others could not believe it. It was amazing. I have never felt that way in my entire life. I have never felt like I could say "I am proud to be American" until that moment. Afterwards, a co-worker and I went outside and joined a huge party that was happening in the streets of Portland. A party!? When was the last time that happened for a president? When was the last time people were so happy that they felt liking partying because the guy they voted for won?
And yes, I am worried. I am worried they we are going to waste this amazing opportunity. I am worried that we are going to sit back and make Obama do all the work. We can't let that happen. We cannot let this time pass us by.
